Tiras Lamtangge Magar, a former hotel management teacher, is promoting Nepal’s diverse hospitality sector globally by creating free video content for hotels and restaurants. He embarked on this unique venture after losing his teaching job during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Magar, who operates “The Coffee Hub” in Butwal’s Yogikuti, began his content creation journey with a simple mobile phone. His interest transformed into a full-fledged campaign after a 20-minute video he made of the newly opened Hyatt Place Butwal garnered approximately 300,000 views on Facebook. “I realised that even a simple introduction to a hotel could attract so many viewers,” he recalled.

Driven by this insight and his background in hotel management, Magar decided to use video to showcase Nepal’s hospitality sector. Over the past year, he has visited and created content for more than 700 hospitality businesses, ranging from small hotels to five-star establishments. His travels have taken him across various districts including Rupandehi, Chitwan, Kapilvastu, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Palpa, Nawalparasi, and Tanahun.

What sets Magar’s initiative apart is his refusal to accept payment for his services. “It is my hobby to introduce Nepali hospitality to the world; I am not doing this to earn money,” he stated. He explained that many hotel and restaurant owners offer him remuneration, but he has never accepted a single rupee. He views his work as a campaign to promote Nepal’s tourism, cuisine, hospitality, culture, and local potential to an international audience.

From teaching to content creation

Born in Somhar, Ribdikot Rural Municipality, Palpa, in 2049 BS, Magar pursued hotel management studies in Tansen and Kathmandu, earning a Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) degree from ISD College. He also gained international experience through a year-long internship in China.

His initial foray into entrepreneurship saw him invest over Rs 1 million to open “Asian Village Fine Dining Restaurant” in Butwal’s Sukhanagar in 2072 BS. However, the business struggled due to the impact of the earthquake and challenges in operating a new venture, eventually leading to a loss of approximately Rs 1 million.

Following this, Magar returned to teaching, instructing hotel management for about 12 years at various institutions in Butwal, including Cannon English Boarding School, New Horizon College, Glorious, Manimukunda, and Paramount. His teaching career was interrupted in 2076 BS when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Nepal, leading to the closure of private educational institutions and leaving him unemployed. This period of unemployment became a turning point, prompting him to establish “The Coffee Hub” and subsequently venture into hospitality content creation.

Future goals and industry support

Magar aims to promote the entire hospitality sector across all 77 districts of Nepal within the next five years. He has also offered suggestions to the government, advocating for improved accessibility to religious and historical sites, enhanced tourist safety, better infrastructure, and increased international promotion.

His efforts align with broader initiatives to boost Nepal’s tourism. In June 2026, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and TikTok launched a series of workshops on content creation and digital storytelling for Nepali tourism entrepreneurs and content creators. This collaboration aims to showcase Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism to a global audience through the #VisitNepal campaign.

While Magar asserts that he covers his expenses, sometimes with an assistant, the detailed source of funding for his extensive travel and operations, particularly for his ambitious five-year goal, remains undisclosed. This is notable in an industry where freelance content creators often face challenges with timely payments from brands.
