Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the country’s official weather forecasting body, has refuted widespread social media rumors predicting continuous heavy rainfall starting today (Saturday, October 3, 2026). The department clarified that no weather system capable of causing such intense precipitation is currently active in Nepal.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division, a branch under the DHM, initially debunked the rumors on Tuesday, Ashwin 13 (BS), urging the public not to be misled by unverified information. Meteorologist Sudarshan Humagain further confirmed on Wednesday, Ashwin 14 (BS), that the country is not experiencing any meteorological conditions that would lead to heavy rainfall.
Current Weather Conditions and Forecast
Today, Nepal is under the partial influence of both monsoon and westerly winds. Partial cloud cover is observed in the country’s hilly and mountainous regions, with light rainfall reported in isolated areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Additionally, some parts of the Tarai plains in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces are experiencing fog.
For this afternoon, the DHM forecasts generally cloudy conditions in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, including their hilly and mountainous regions, along with the Tarai plains across the country, are expected to see partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of light rainfall in a few locations within the hilly and mountainous parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.
What to Expect and Public Advisory
Looking ahead, while some hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may experience light to moderate rainfall, the DHM maintains that there is no likelihood of heavy precipitation. The department advises the public to stay updated by checking the official website and social media channels of the Meteorological Forecasting Division. It also requested the public not to follow misleading news.
Earlier reports from the DHM also indicated a partial influence of monsoon and westerly winds across the country. Read more about Nepal’s weather forecast from October 1, 2026.
