Nepal’s Parliamentary Hearing Committee, a parliamentary body responsible for approving ambassadorial nominations, has received five complaints against 13 individuals proposed as ambassadors to various countries. The committee is scheduled to open these complaints during a meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The committee had publicly called for information or complaints, along with evidence, regarding the recommended individuals. The upcoming meeting, set for 11:15 AM on Tuesday, will also see the distribution of work plans for the ambassadorial nominees.

Thirteen nominees announced

The Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Balen Shah, decided to recommend the 13 individuals for ambassadorial posts on September 18, 2026. The nominees include:

  • Dr. Nischalnath Pandey for India
  • Dr. Kalyanraj Sharma for China
  • Chiranjung Thapa for the United States
  • Gauravshumsher Jang Bahadur Rana for the United Kingdom
  • Saru Joshi for Germany
  • Sureshkumar Karna for Israel

Next steps for the committee

The Parliamentary Hearing Committee, which comprises 15 members (12 from the House of Representatives and three from the National Assembly, the upper house of parliament), decided to advance the hearing process for the ambassadorial recommendations on September 24, 2026. The Speaker of the House of Representatives is Dolprasad Aryal.

The ambassador appointment process can only proceed after the committee completes its study and hearing of the complaints and subsequently approves the nominations. For approval, a simple majority of eight out of 15 members is required, while a two-thirds majority (10 out of 15 members) is needed to reject a nominee.

The specific nominees against whom the five complaints have been filed, along with the detailed nature of these complaints, will only be made public after the committee opens them during Tuesday’s meeting. The schedule for the individual hearings of the proposed ambassadors has also not yet been announced.
